How to Use Raised Texture, Transparent Glazes and Layering for special effects

Online Painting Class

Media: Acrylic

Who or what is Naymlap? No doubt the subject of this class is unique, and you may never have heard of him.

We selected Lord Naymlap as a symbolic representation of a time when artists created amulets to be worn and to decorate their dwellings, gods and tools. It is an ancient amulet usually made of copper and gold.

The goal of the class and using the ancient Naymlap design serves to teach modern day art students how to create similar decorative effects using modern day painting supplies and painting techniques.

How to Use Raised Texture, Transparent Glazes and Layering for special effects

Learn and Discover New Painting Techniques

It is a fun and interactive technique using a heavy texture medium and a layering technique using transparent glazes. In this class, students learn several painting techniques as they apply a three dimensional raised effect and finish with transparent glazes.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Explore the use of texture mediums and 'mica' to create the faux effects of inlaid gold.
  • Learn about color glazing applications. Learn how to use both transparent and opaque applications of paint.
  • ohmyprints-09062017-013014.jpg
  • NOTE: Can be re-sized to fit any size canvas surface.

                              ***Bonus Feature

As an added bonus to this online class, we included an art history segment!

  • The earlier indigenous peoples from vast geographical areas used available elements to create their art work. These elements came from the earth such as the raw pigments, gems, minerals, and stones to represent and describe their individual cultures and identities.
  • Explore the development of paint through early pigments. Learn about the art of early cultures and replicate a authentic Pre-Columbian amulet as you do so. Their use of color and design was often inspired by their belief systems, gods and their environment.
  • This class is for all skill levels.
  • Upon purchasing this class you will receive an automatically generated email with the pdf file link for the materials and the video access information.

This was so much fun. I Learned a lot and being a fan of mixed media I will use the technique over and over. Great presentation of the class too, and the history was so interesting. Excellent class.

I have several classes of Neadeen's. She paints as she explains everything she is doing. What a great way to learn how to use texture medium, and have a beautiful painting in the process.
