Have you always wanted to know how to paint animal fur?

This wildlife subject is designed to get you started!

If you have struggled with painting lion fur or animal fur and are not too sure how to get started; Artist Neadeen Masters has created an online art class that will answer many of your questions.

"How to paint fur" will be a subject you won't shy away from. We all know how frustrating it can be to create depth and realism when painting animal subjects. Not being able to paint fur can make our wildlife subjects look anything but real. If you're serious about learning basic fur painting techniques, in this case painting lions, you're in the right place. After taking this class, you'll have a greater understanding of the painting techniques and painting processes that will help you tackle other wildlife subjects and you'll be able to approach many other lion studies in the future.

The class videos begin with painting demonstrations showing how to start painting the background treatment as seen above... Creating a soft atmospheric effect in the background is an excellent backdrop for many wildlife subjects. Once this skill is learned it will come in very useful in the furture. Students also learn how to mix colors directly on the canvas using a simple 'mottling' painting technique. After the background is in place, the underpainting and blocking in of the animal begins...

Class Presentation

Once enrolled in the class, students gain access to the online classroom on our website. Here you will find all the class materials such as the supply list, class videos, lessons and other support materials. As you watch the videos, the teacher helps you prepare for the class, discusses the supplies and begins the creative process. Students follow along with the videos and use the printed text lessons as an extra support for the class. At anytime you can ask for help via email or by uploading a photograph of your painting into the class forums. Your teacher is always ready to offer suggestions and give feedback to help you create a successful painting you'll be happy with.

This is the first online art class I have taken. I was looking for a painting class to teach me how to go about painting lions. Thank you Neadeen Masters for teaching me a painting method and the painting techniques for painting these great cats. After taking your online art class I am very happy with what I learned about painting lions. I enjoy the way you teach and how you start the study. The teaching videos show all the steps and good demonstrations. For me this was important. Very Excellent class.

I am so pleased that I took this class. Neadeen is a very good teacher and I was so happy to be in this class. I am going to take many other classes here. They are very professional and great teachers.

  6. First Big Cat

Posted by Sharon Wolf on 7th Jun 2012

This was scary for me before I started as I knew it would be a challenge to produce something I would be happy with. I needn't have worried because Neadeen is so thorough and helpful with suggestions at each stage. One of the important things she suggests, is to trace onto acetate and use this at regular intervals to check as certain featurs can get distorted (grow) i.e. the nose.

Thank you again for a brilliant workshop!
