In Just a Few Weeks You Too Can Put Your
Worries and Fears of Color Mixing Aside
Learn how to build your color confidence
and independence with ease
|How often do you find yourself saying, “I wish I knew how to mix that color or match that color or describe that color”. Whether you're a painter, quilter, cake decorator, scrap-booker, or interior decorator… Learning about color will make what you do easier and very exciting. It did for me. Color impacts our lives in so many different ways that it's a shame to be afraid of it.
What is color theory? Being successful with color depends on how much you understand about the language of color. At first, the concept of choosing your own colors or mixing your own colors seems terrifying and I can totally relate to this. When I first began painting, color theory was not included as part of the learning process, as a result I became more and more dependent on patterns, books and teachers. As time passed I realized I wanted to become an artist in the truest sense of the word... thus began my quest for in-depth color knowledge!
The materials in this color theory class are created as a valuable shortcut for you. Designed to save you all the lost time and frustration I experienced searching for an easy way to explain and manage color. In this class, I want to share with you the most important aspects of what I have learned over the years. I want to give you the tools so you'll be successful and your color mixing will become second nature to you.
There are many learning outcomes for this color course, but mostly you'll learn how to speak and understand the language of color with ease. You'll learn to use common color tools such as the color wheel and pigment wheel as you develop easy pathways that will help you predict successful outcomes.
|Media: This class is taught with acrylic paint. However color theory applies to all media (oils, watercolor, acrylic), regardless of the media type. Some adjustments will be necessary for drying times and paint viscosity.|

Better Color Mixing and Matching
In just a few weeks I can show you how
If you are a new painter looking to build a strong foundation in color, these color classes are for you. If you've been painting for a while but need to fill in the blanks and have a firmer grasp on understanding color mixing, working with pure pigments and a limited palette, you too will find this class invaluable to your artistic growth. Here's what you will learn:
Explore Color Basics I - Explore the subject of Color with an Introduction to both the Color Wheel and the Pigment Wheel. This course will show the beginner/intermediate artist how to look at color with an artistic and logical perspective.
Sometimes color can be an overwhelming topic for the new or experienced artist, in this foundational course, discover new ways to understand the paint (pigments) in your paint box and explore simple ways to mix color. Understanding color will make all the difference in how you approach a painting or some other activities such as gardening, quilting and home decorating to name just a few..
Explore Color Basics II - Discover the most important property of color - 'Value'. In order to understand how to make an object seem three dimensional, the artist needs to know how to create form. This is an excellent foundational course for the beginning and/or intermediate painter who wishes to understand the principles of value and apply them to the form or mass of objects.
I will guide you through the exercises with several video demonstrations and text lessons. Students receive feedback on their understanding of the main subjects. This part of the class is usually very enjoyable as students feel good about what they have learned.
Explore Color Basics III - Learn about Color Intensity. Students will learn mixing techniques, both palette and brush mixing and other methods integral to learning color management.
The longer you wait to learn these concepts, the longer it will take you to become an independent artist. We work on numerous demonstrations that teach logical ways to identify, evaluate and 'read' color while interpreting them with color mixes. This course will empower you as it places the emphasis on understanding the second property of color - 'color intensity'.

Here's another benefit you may not yet realize - One of the greatest benefits to taking an online class like this is having the ability to hit the rewind button. If you need to re-watch an explanation or demonstration more than once, you can do so as many times as you like.
Online classes give you lots of time to practice and digest the information at your own pace. Watching the videos from the best seat in YOUR HOME gives you an over the shoulder view of the whole painting process from start to finish!
Here's a Quick Way to Enhance Your Creative Experience
Understanding how to work with successful color combinations will not only improve our painting skills, it will help us become more confident in how we go about our other interests. From gardening to quilting, from entertaining to meal presentation, from selecting matching outfits to home decor. These all tie together with having a good sense of color and harmony. Color schemes can often help us change the mood of rooms in our homes and make our lives so much richer and fun.
Stop your fear of color mixing from holding you back!

This class is just so great. Gaby is such a wonderful instructor. I've always been intimidated by mixing colors, but after this class, I feel so much more confident that I can actually do it. Gaby does such a great job explaining everything. There are quizzes throughout to make sure you're "getting it" and the multitude of exercises Gaby does with you are just phenomenal. I highly recommend this class.
I have taken other classes at AAO and every class, magazine, and product has been excellent and top notch. Thanks AAO for helping me become a better artist.

Gaby this was a great series of color classes. You make it seem so logical. I had a major aha moment and things started coming together for me after being frustrated trying to understand color, mixing, values and intensity.
Another thing I want to thank all you ladies from the AAO for creating online classes, you are so far ahead of the game and your schools are wonderful. I have signed up for many other classes too. Thank you.
