Laminated Pigment Wheel - Color Theory Tools For Artists: The pigment wheel is shown in the lower right of this graphic.
This is one of the 'must have' color tools for the artist!
The position of the colors on the pigment wheel help the artist understand more about the pigment color's bias or hue shift. This information is VERY important to know as it will help YOU the artist, avoid muddy mixes and allow you full control of your palette and pigment choices.
Here's how it works:
Locate two pigments you wish to mix with, for example, Hansa Yellow and Naphthol Red....on the pigment wheel, draw a line between them and now you can predict the outcome of the mix based on the ratios of each color that you use. The resulting mix will always fall along the line drawn between the two.
NOTE:To learn more about the pigment wheel and how to use this amazing color tool join in either the basic online color classes at the AAO Art School or take the Tier One Beginner Course. This information will change the way you mix colors, adjust colors, purchase pigments, amnd manage your palette in the furture!
Unlike the standard color wheel, the Pigment Wheel shows the correct placement or location of pigments used in the Traditions Line of Artist Acrylic paint. These pigments are placed relative to their intensity and hue and are based on the Munsell color system. This tool provides the artist with a valuable resource tool for mixing and predicting color mixes and can also be used with most other other brands to help isolate the color family which is also very helpful when mixing with popular colors.
