Learn and Discover New Painting Techniques - Naymlap is a Pre-Columbian art work based on an authentic Pre-Colombian amulet. It is a fun and interactive design using texture medium and a layering technique. In this class, students learn to create new painting techniques as they apply transparent glazes, use a fun and simple drinking straw to create visual effects in paint. Explore the use of texture mediums and 'mica' to create the faux effects of inlaid gold. This class places the focus on color glazing applications and shows the artist how to use both transparent and opaque applications of paint. No prior skill required. Also learn how to become a safety conscious artist by being aware of the ingredients in paints and artist’s materials.
Learn A Little Art History Too!- The earlier indigenous peoples from vast geographical areas used available elements to create their art work. These elements came from the earth such as the raw pigments, gems, minerals, and stones to represent and describe their individual cultures and identities. Explore the development of paint through early pigments. Learn about the art of early cultures and replicate a authentic Pre-Colombian amulet as you do so. Their use of color and design was often inspired by their belief systems, gods and their environment. This class is for all skill levels.
