From the teacher: "Over the many years of my teaching career I have been asked neumerous times about painting red birds, but most often about how to paint a colorful parrot. The Macaw bird is the largest of the parrots. It's beautiful red feathers are brilliant and stand out against the backdrop of the deep green rainforest. This particular bird is actually a red and green macaw, known as the Green Winged Macaw. In the photograph above you can just see the start of some of the green feathers along the back of the bird."
So you want to know 'How to Paint A Parrot'
"If learning to paint a tropical bird is on your agenda, I will show you how. I love to paint all tropical birds, mostly because of their beautiful and brilliant colors! But the red color of this bird was the inspiration for painting this macaw. In this online painting class I share a step by step approach using an indirect style of painting. The bird is developed with several layers that teach about color harmony and creating the translucency and depth of the red color. I will show you a great painting method to preserve the brilliance of the red hues by using a yellow/gold underpainting. This approach will show you how the beautiful golden under-painting will enhance the subsequent layers of red color."
How the Class Is Taught
Watch from the best seat in the house!
This short video clip will give you an idea of the painting process for this class. Neadeen teaches at a very slow pace and you can follow along every step of the way. The beauty of an online class like this is your ability to rewind the videos and watch them over and over as many times as you like. You will miss nothing of the explanations and you watch from the best seat in the house with out ever having to leave home.
Neadeen demonstrates how to hold the brush, how to use specific acrylic painting techniques, and how to build each thin layer slowly. This class will teach you many valuable and transferrable skills that you will use over and over again to paint many other bird subjects in the future.
As you can see, students watch close up video demonstrations of each step. You can work at your own pace and take your time with the painting. If you are anxious to get started, you can begin painting right away.
From beginning to end you will learn about brush mixing to adjust color, how to apply transparent color glazes to create the luminious red color and how to use value to create the basic form of the bird. Watch and learn as the bird slowly evolves into a beautiful three dimensional red macaw.
Once enrolled in the class, students gain access to the online classroom on our website.
