Techniques used in this Lesson

‘Wet in wet’ - painting into a wet color layer. The newly applied color can be worked and blended into the wet under painting.

Layering - applying one color over another, drying between each step.

Block and Blend- A method used for applying three values (light, medium, dark) to an object and blending one into the other.

Refined Blending

Refined blending is a technique used when we want to give our work a more realistic look. To create three-dimensional forms, we must use at least three values of color. For more realism use five or more values. These values must be blended where they meet or touch so that there is a nice, smooth gradual transition from one to the next.
