Product Description

In This Intensive Old Master Study, artist Neadeen Masters takes you along for the journey as she explores the painting concepts and painting techniques used by the Old Master painters from the Dutch Golden Age.

Objectives of the Lesson:

  • To explore the methods and reasoning of the Old ‘Landscape’ Master – Jacob van Ruisdael
  • To explore the roots of the Venetian method and learn how we can combine and introduce some ‘direct ‘painting’ methods to bring the painting to final completion.
  • To develop a painting using layering methods.
  • To create color harmony through the use of a tonal underpainting.
  • To create texture through visual patterning, i.e. painting the rhythmic ‘boil’ of the clouds.
  • To work with a limited palette controlling warm and cool tones to create harmony and balance.
  • To study the tonal effects of scumbling, i.e. Painting the water.
  • To paint an entire design using brush-mixing methods.
  • To have a greater understanding for the concept of the line as it applies to a landscape.

  1. Looks like a wonderful learning experience coming....

Posted by Unknown on 6th Jul 2013

I just received this yesterday and have quickly perused the materials and am pleased with how much there will be to learn from this project. It is too early to really give it a full review but I am sure this will be a great learning experience and painting to accomplish if one makes a good study of the materials AND puts them into practice.

  2. Wonderful Dutch Landscape!

Posted by Gail from Tolland on 19th Apr 2013

This has to be the most largest packet I have ever received. In this packet you learn the history of Dutch landscape painter Jacob van Ruisdael. You can paint a reproduction of his painting that is in the Rijksmuseum. Neadeen's directions include theory for all techniques and wonderful photos to make your painting the best it can be. I look forward to working on this wonderful piece.
